Bathing In The Ganges At Varanasi

One of the holiest activities - if you're a Hindu - is to bathe in the mighty Ganga (Ganges) river in Varanasi. Pilgrims come from all over India and beyond to be blessed at Varanasi in the river. It's an easy enough activity, head to the ghats, strip down and head in.

The regular riverside scene. Can you spot the Japanese tourists?

Bathing doesn't need to be a crowded affair. Or holy - come to the river and get yourself clean. On shore at the ghats, it's a ballet of undressing and dressing.

A lone bather, the expanse of Varanasi stretching beyond.

Two more scenes of bathing, all ages welcome, from kids to older men.

One last look, definitely a communal affair among families.
